- Hornets point guard Jarrett Jack will not play tonight because of a sore knee. “Just mileage, I guess,” coach Monty Williams said. “He complained about it last night and I just pulled the plug.” Greivis Vasquez will start after scoring 20 points and handing out 12 assists in 28 minutes off the bench last night.
- Williams changed his starting lineup last night in the loss to Phoenix by moving Marco Belinelli to the bench in favor of DaJuan Summers at off-guard. Williams said he’s going to do it again tonight. “I talked to Marco about getting him against some of the backups to see if he could get a read on the game,” Williams said. “What I didn’t like is that every game they were trying to post Marco up. It puts your defense in a tough spot when you’re trying to deal with your guards down there being posted up. When you’ve lost as many games as we have you’re trying to find ways to change it up and help your team win games.”
- Though coach Gregg Popovich said at the beginning of the season that he wanted to avoid playing Tim Duncan four games in five nights, he’s going to do it tonight. But he will keep an eye on Duncan’s minutes played. “When you say Duncan will play, it just depends on how much people will play,” Popovich said. “It’s more a minutes thing rather than whether he plays or not.”
- Gary Neal will start in the Spurs off-guard spot in place of rookie Kawhi Leonard, who had started the last 13 games as San Antonio adjusted to the injuries of guards Manu Ginobili and T.J. Ford. Leonard has been hot and cold, going for a double-double in 31 minutes two games back at Memphis and then shooting 1-of-5 in eight minutes last night against Houston.
