- Nuggets forward Wilson Chandler will be in uniform but may not play against Utah. Chandler is still not 100 percent after offseason surgery on his left hip and has been sitting out the second of back-to-back games. The Nuggets prefer to play him in the first game because it gives him more recovery time for the next game but soreness in the hip may keep him off the court Friday.
- Denver center Timofey Mozgov could see his first action of the season. The 7-foot-1 Mozgov has missed the first five games with a left knee strain, but with Utah’s frontcourt including Derrick Favors, Enes Kantor and Al Jefferson, using Mozgov on the court with teammates Kosta Koufos and JaVale McGee might be necessary. “Our big guys are going to be challenged there and we’re going to have to figure out different reads and double-team situations,” coach George Karl said. “We’ve had some troubles with some of the great big guys we’ve played in the first couple of games.”
- The game will feature a battle of Mo Williams and Ty Lawson, two point guards who can control the tempo. Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin said the goal is to make sure Lawson is not causing havoc on his defense. “We have to contain him, we keep him out of the paint and don’t let him break our defense down and have it collapse and kick out to 3-point shooters,” he said.
- The Jazz are healthy after the stomach flu made its way around the team. “We’ve had a few guys that had it a few guys who had it a couple of days ago but we’re hoping that’s the end of it,” Corbin said.
