- Minnesota guard Brandon Roy (sore right knee) won’t return tonight, but head coach Rick Adelman said he hopes to have Roy and point guard Jose Barea (sprained left foot) back for Wednesday’s game against Charlotte. Barea, who did not travel with the team to Dallas, was a member of the Mavericks’ 2011 NBA championship team.
- In Roy’s absence, Adelman said second-year guard Malcolm Lee will make his first career start. Lee matched a career high with nine points in Saturday’s loss at Chicago. “Malcolm is a decent defender and hopefully he can slow down (O.J.) Mayo a little bit tonight,” Adelman said.
- Mavericks sixth man Vince Carter (left hip flexor) is a game-time decision. “He’s being worked on and the hope is that he’ll be able to play,” head coach Rick Carlisle said. “If it’s a close call, we may hold him out. The last I heard, things were looking OK.” Carter is averaging 14.3 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.
- The Mavericks dropped two of three meetings last season against the Timberwolves, but have still won 19 of the last 22 overall and 10 of the last 12 at the American Airlines Center. Both teams got off to 4-1 starts this season despite missing key players, including Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio for Minnesota and Dirk Nowitzki for Dallas. The Wolves have also lost Chase Budinger (left knee) and the Mavericks are playing without Shawn Marion (left knee).
