TV: League Pass
- As if Orlando wasn’t already going to have its hands full against the Grizzlies tonight, they’ll have to take on the winner’s of five in a row with just eight players. The Magic are left short-handed tonight thanks to Thursday’s trade that sent J.J.Redick, Gustavo Ayon and Ish Smith to Milwaukee for Tobias Harris, Doron Lamb and Beno Udrih. Orlando also dealt Josh McRoberts to Charlotte for former Grizzly Hakim Warrick. However, none of the newcomers are available tonight. “The biggest thing is going to be fouls because this is probably one of the most physical teams in the league,” Orlando coach Jacque Vaughn said. “They want to get into the paint and it’s going to be up to us to have some sort of resistance. That’s going to be the toughest part. Besides that, guys want minutes and they’re going to get minutes tonight. But we’ve got to be smart and judicious with our minutes.”
- The Grizzlies also made a trade, acquiring center Dexter Pittman from Miami for the rights to Ricky Sanchez. Coach Lionel Hollins said it will be up to Pittman if he wants to dress for tonight’s game.
- Hollins said he is more concerned about his team coming out and playing their style of basketball than he is about how Orlando will respond to being shorthanded. He expects players like Aaron Afflalo, Andrew Nicholson, Maurice Harkless and Nikola Vucevic to try to increase their scoring. “It doesn’t really matter if we go out and play the way we’re capable of playing,” Hollins said. “What’s important is our mindset, our focus, and our intensity.”
