- The Trail Blazers did not arrive at Philips Arena until about 6:12 Friday because of traffic nightmares in downtown Atlanta. Early reports indicated that a vehicle pulling out of the famed “Varsity” eatery about a mile from Philips hit another car, pushing that one into traffic and then the initial vehicle fled and caused more accidents nearby before the offending car stopped and occupants fled on foot from police. Some reports indicated a shooting in connection with the events.
- Hawks coach Larry Drew is tweaking his starting lineup for Friday night’s game against the visiting Blazers. Devin Harris is out at shooting guard, Kyle Korver will move from small forward into that spot, and DeShawn Stevenson will start in the three spot. The goals is to get a little bigger and more physical with Portland. This is the same starting lineup that had success when the Hawks won 95-87 at Portland on Nov. 12. This is the most common starting lineup of the 24 Drew has used, but the team is 5-7 in those games. This is the 10th starting lineup Drew has used in the past 11 games.
- Backup center Zaza Pachulia (sore Achilles’ tendon) remains sidelined for the Hawks.
